Website: Maxon
This ever-present benchmark needs little introduction. Cinebench uses Maxon's Cinema 4D engine to render a photo-realistic and highly complex scene. The latest version, R20, requires about 8x the computational power than R15, and takes advantage of new features on the latest CPUs.
As Cinema 4D is a real-world application, Cinebench can be considered a real-world benchmark.
Website: Blender
Blender is a free and open-source 3D creation suite. It supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline—modelling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing, motion tracking, and even video editing and game creation. We use version 2.80 beta along with the freely available Blenchmark addon, which creates a benchmark tool, and we simply record the time it takes to complete the benchmark.
Website: Persistence of Vision Raytracer
The Persistence of Vision Raytracer is a high-quality, free ray tracing program for creating three-dimensional graphics, which generates images from a text-based scene description and is available for a variety of computer platforms. We use the all-CPU built-in benchmark, which completes a timed task, and we record the time it takes for each CPU to complete it.
